Option for Valuation Professionals
As rapidly as the profession is changing, valuers today need to prepare for the future. But it’s tough to keep up on your own. Appraisal Institute opens the door for you to share in the collective wisdom and experience of 18,000 individuals who are working together to build a stronger future for the profession.
The Candidate for Designation Program is designed for state certified appraisers (or equivalent) with an interest in pursuing the prestigious Appraisal Institute MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, and AI-RRS Designations. We also welcome graduate students pursuing an MSRE, MRED, or an MBA with a concentration in real estate in an approved AI Master’s Degree Program.
The Practicing Affiliate category is designed for individuals who do appraisal, appraisal review, mass appraisal and other services provided as a valuer. Individuals who may qualify for this category could include, state certified, licensed, trainee, provisional, and registered appraisers (or have the equivalent education), or any individual who may provide services as a valuer.

Options for Others
The Affiliate and Student Affiliate categories are opened to those interested in property economics but who do not provide any Service(s) as defined by the Code of Professional Ethics (CPE), which include appraisal, appraisal review, appraisal consulting, mass appraisal, and real property consulting. Affiliates share in the interests and concerns of the appraisal profession but do not provide Service(s) as defined by the Code of Professional Ethics.
Note: Student Affiliates must be currently enrolled in at least 6 credit semester hours at an accredited college or university.
